There were some parts of this story that I loved and some that fell a little short for me. I wanted it to be more of a romance than a book about military strategy. But on the romance front, this book fell really short for me. I think that's probably because I feel as if the characters were not fully developed. I didn't have any strong emotions throughout this book at all. I didn't feel a connection with the characters, and I certainly didn't feel the connection between them.
But I really did like the characters and the idea of the book. I liked that the characters were not perfect. You could say Arin was outspoken, but I would say that he could be downright rude. But that's okay, I'm sick of perfect characters. As for Kestrel, I loved how calculating she was.
Sadly this is one of those books that didn't live up to the hype for me. I didn't have serious difficulty putting it down. I just wanted so much more from this story than what I got.
